😂🔥 JIM CARREY’S FAMILY REUNION TURNS INTO TOTAL MADNESS… EVERYONE ACTS JUST LIKE HIM! 🤣💥

win723October 24, 2026

Some actors become famous for a single unforgettable character.

Jim Carrey somehow became famous for an entire collection of them.

Ace Ventura. Stanley Ipkiss from The Mask. The Cable Guy. Lloyd Christmas. Fire Marshall Bill. Truman Burbank. The Riddler. Even when the movies themselves were wildly different, Carrey had such a recognizable physical style that audiences could identify him almost immediately.

So when Saturday Night Live brought him back to host in 2014, the show found a wonderfully simple way to celebrate decades of Jim Carrey characters.

It gave him a family reunion.

“Carrey Family Reunion” begins with Jim playing himself at a restaurant, waiting for relatives to arrive. At first, it looks like a normal gathering. Then the family members start walking through the door.

One relative moves like Ace Ventura.

Another behaves like the strange, obsessive character from The Cable Guy.

Another turns into the green-faced madness of The Mask.

There is Fire Marshall Bill.

There are references to The Truman Show.

Eventually, even Jeff Daniels appears.

The joke is obvious almost immediately: Jim Carrey’s entire family apparently consists of people who act exactly like Jim Carrey characters.

But what makes the sketch special is how much affection sits underneath the parody.

This is not simply SNL making fun of an actor.

It is SNL celebrating what made him impossible to imitate—and inviting an entire cast to try anyway.

Jim Carrey Meets Jim Carrey

The funniest person to place at the center of a room filled with Jim Carrey impressions is Jim Carrey himself.

That decision changes everything.

Instead of simply watching SNL cast members perform famous characters, viewers get to watch the real Carrey react to them.

And he seems simultaneously amused, confused, and slightly offended.

A relative walks in and delivers a familiar gesture.

Jim recognizes it.

The audience recognizes it.

But the relative acts as though Jim is the one copying him.

That reversal becomes one of the sketch’s recurring jokes.

Carrey spent decades creating these voices, faces, movements, and catchphrases. Now he has entered a universe where his fictional relatives insist they came up with them first.

Suddenly the man responsible for all those characters is the normal person in the room.

For Jim Carrey, that might be the strangest role of all.

Taran Killam Starts the Madness

Taran Killam is one of the first performers to establish exactly how the sketch will work.

His character arrives carrying unmistakable traces of Ace Ventura.

The body language is there.

The exaggerated confidence is there.

And eventually, one of Carrey’s most famous phrases appears.

Jim reacts as though someone has stolen something from him.

That is the perfect way to introduce the premise because audiences instantly understand the game.

Every new family member will represent another piece of Carrey’s career.

From that point forward, viewers start anticipating which character might appear next.

That anticipation is a huge part of the fun.

If you grew up watching Carrey’s movies in the 1990s, almost every entrance produces recognition before the character even finishes speaking.

A hairstyle.

A shirt.

A strange walk.

A facial expression.

Sometimes that is enough.

Why Jim Carrey Is So Much Fun to Imitate

There are actors whose performances are difficult to parody because their style is subtle.

Jim Carrey has never had that problem.

At the height of his physical-comedy era, Carrey seemed capable of treating his entire body like a cartoon.

His face stretched into impossible expressions.

His shoulders moved independently of the rest of him.

He could transform a simple walk into a joke.

Even the way he pronounced ordinary words could become memorable.

That made him a natural target for impressions.

But it also created a difficult challenge.

Everyone knows what a Jim Carrey impression looks like.

Doing it badly is easy.

Doing it well enough that the audience immediately recognizes a specific character is much harder.

That is what makes “Carrey Family Reunion” so entertaining. Each cast member gets only a short amount of time to communicate an entire movie character.

They cannot explain who they are.

They have to show us.

Bobby Moynihan Goes Full “Mask”

Bobby Moynihan’s appearance is one of the sketch’s biggest explosions of energy.

His version of Carrey’s character from The Mask does not quietly enter the reunion.

That would be impossible.

Stanley Ipkiss’s green-faced alter ego was built around cartoon physics, wild confidence, sudden movement, and exaggerated reactions. Moynihan embraces that energy completely.

The costume immediately tells the audience who he is supposed to represent.

Then the performance removes any remaining doubt.

It is not a subtle impression.

It should not be.

The Mask was not a subtle movie, and Carrey’s performance was not designed to disappear into the background.

He behaved like a living Tex Avery cartoon.

The SNL version understands that the best way to honor that character is simply to turn the energy level all the way up.

Jim’s reaction makes it even better.

Watching the original performer face a distorted copy of himself creates a strange kind of comedy that an ordinary celebrity impression cannot provide.

Cecily Strong Brings Back Fire Marshall Bill

For longtime Jim Carrey fans, Cecily Strong’s appearance carries another layer of nostalgia.

Before Carrey became one of Hollywood’s biggest movie stars, he was a standout performer on In Living Color.

One of his most memorable recurring characters was Fire Marshall Bill, the horribly scarred safety instructor whose demonstrations had a tendency to become catastrophically dangerous.

The character represented the wild physical comedy that helped make Carrey famous before Ace Ventura turned him into a movie star.

Strong’s version instantly brings that era back.

It is also a reminder that the sketch is not limited to Carrey’s biggest movies.

The writers are pulling from his broader comic history.

For viewers who remember In Living Color, the reference feels like a reward.

For younger viewers who may know Carrey primarily from movies, it is a glimpse of the strange television character work that came first.

Vanessa Bayer Finds One of the Strangest Ace Ventura References

One of the great things about the sketch is that it does not stop at obvious costumes.

Vanessa Bayer brings back one of the most ridiculous visual jokes associated with Ace Ventura: Pet Detective.

Anyone familiar with the movie understands the reference immediately.

Anyone unfamiliar with it probably wonders what kind of childhood everyone else had.

That is part of the pleasure of a sketch like this.

It rewards shared memory.

SNL knows the audience has seen these movies enough times that certain tiny moments have become part of pop culture.

The show does not need to explain them.

It simply recreates the image and waits for recognition to turn into laughter.

Jay Pharoah Channels The Cable Guy

Then there is The Cable Guy.

When the movie arrived in 1996, audiences expecting another broad Jim Carrey comedy encountered something much darker and stranger. Carrey played Chip Douglas, a deeply lonely cable installer whose attempt at friendship becomes increasingly obsessive.

Jay Pharoah taps into that uncomfortable intensity.

The character is funny because he is always slightly too much.

Too interested.

Too close.

Too emotionally invested.

The smile is just a little too eager.

Carrey’s original performance walked the line between ridiculous and unsettling, and even a short imitation can bring back that uneasy energy.

Among all the loud characters being represented at the reunion, the Cable Guy stands out because his weirdness is more personal.

He does not simply enter the room.

He invades your space.

A Career Becomes a Family

The central idea becomes funnier the longer the sketch continues.

These are supposed to be Jim Carrey’s relatives, but symbolically they really are his family.

They are the characters that followed him throughout his career.

Some turned into massive box-office successes.

Some became cult favorites.

Some were television creations.

Some were strange experiments.

Together, they form a kind of accidental autobiography.

That gives the sketch an unexpectedly warm quality.

SNL is poking fun at Carrey’s familiar mannerisms, but it is also reminding viewers how many memorable performances he created.

Most actors would be lucky to have one character recognizable enough to support an SNL impression.

Carrey has enough to fill a reunion.

Then Jeff Daniels Walks In

The sketch saves one of its best surprises for later.

Jeff Daniels appears as a version of Lloyd Christmas from Dumb and Dumber.

The cameo works on several levels.

First, Daniels instantly connects the sketch to one of Carrey’s most beloved movies.

Second, the timing was perfect. Carrey and Daniels were promoting Dumb and Dumber To, which was released in 2014, two decades after the original film.

But the biggest joke is simply that Daniels is there at all.

At this point, the reunion has become a celebration not just of Jim Carrey impressions but of the entire strange universe surrounding his career.

And Daniels looks completely comfortable entering it.

His presence gives the ending an extra burst of nostalgia.

For viewers who watched Dumb and Dumber endlessly in the 1990s, seeing the two actors together again immediately activates decades of memories.

The Sketch Understands Nostalgia Without Becoming Sentimental

Nostalgia comedy can easily become lazy.

Just mention an old movie.

Show a familiar costume.

Wait for applause.

“Carrey Family Reunion” does use recognition, but it adds an actual comic structure.

Every relative believes that Jim copied them.

Every entrance raises the question of which character will appear next.

Jim is repeatedly forced to confront exaggerated versions of his own career.

The result feels celebratory without turning into a tribute reel.

That matters.

Carrey is not standing onstage while people tell him how important he is.

He is being annoyed by fictional relatives.

That feels much more appropriate for a comedian.

It Also Shows How Much Carrey Changed Comedy

During the 1990s, Jim Carrey’s rise was extraordinary.

Within a short period, movies like Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Mask, and Dumb and Dumber transformed him into one of the most recognizable comedy stars in the world.

His style was huge.

He did not merely tell jokes.

He physically attacked them.

His face became part of the punch line.

His voice changed shape.

His entire body seemed elastic.

That style influenced a generation of performers, but it was also so specifically his that imitating it almost always becomes a Jim Carrey impression.

“Carrey Family Reunion” quietly proves the point.

Every cast member changes costume and adopts a different character.

Yet somehow all of them still look related.

Why the Sketch Still Works

More than a decade after the sketch aired, many of the references are even older.

Yet the video remains incredibly easy to enjoy.

Part of that is because Carrey’s biggest movies continue to live in popular culture.

But another reason is simpler.

Watching talented comedians imitate another talented comedian is fun.

There is something almost competitive about it.

How quickly can you identify the character?

Who has the best voice?

Who captures the strangest facial expression?

Which impression makes Jim Carrey himself laugh?

The sketch turns the audience into participants.

Every entrance becomes a small guessing game.

A Reunion Only Jim Carrey Could Have

By the end, the restaurant is filled with pieces of Jim Carrey’s career.

A little Ace Ventura.

A little The Mask.

A little Cable Guy.

A little Fire Marshall Bill.

A little Dumb and Dumber.

And Jim himself standing in the middle of everything, trying to convince his own fictional family that they stole their personalities from him.

It is ridiculous.

It is affectionate.

And it is probably the most appropriate way imaginable to celebrate someone whose career was built on being larger than life.

“Carrey Family Reunion” works because it understands that Jim Carrey did not simply play characters.

He created characters people remembered.

The voices stuck.

The expressions stuck.

The catchphrases stuck.

The ridiculous walks stuck.

Decades later, another performer can make one strange movement and an audience instantly knows what movie they are referencing.

That is a rare kind of cultural footprint.

So maybe the sketch’s central joke is not entirely wrong.

Perhaps all those characters really are members of Jim Carrey’s extended family.

They have certainly been living with him—and with audiences—for a very long time.

And when they all gather in one room, there is really only one proper way to take the family photo:

With everyone behaving as ridiculously as possible.
